Exam Information

The passing score on each NCEES examination will be determined by the Board, based on NCEES' recommendation.

The exam dates can be found under dates and deadlines on the web site.

Exam Attempts

An exam candidate, if approved to take the exam, is approved for 4 exam attempts within a 5 year period. Your 5 years starts when your application is approved by the Board to sit for the exam.

In the event the applicant fails to pass after the four attempts, the applicant will be notified the application is closed. If your application has been closed, you will be required to file another application and update your experience since the first application. No additional verification, references or transcripts will be required.

October Exam - results usually mailed late December

ALLS Exam (if you took the ALLS exam only)

February, April, July, and October exams - results usually mailed in a month

The Alabama Board offers all of the PE exams offered by NCEES.

How to Apply for the PE Exam

First Time Applicants - You must submit the application, application fee, verifications, references, transcripts (if applicable) and verification of FE exam (if applicable) to be reviewed by the Board no later than January 15 for the April exam or July 1 for the October exam.

Re-exam (application has not been closed) - You must create an account with NCEES to start the exam registration process and pay the exam fee during the registration process by NCEES' deadline.

How to Apply for the PLS and/or ALLS Exams with a Surveying Degree

First Time Applicants – You must submit the application, application fee, verifications, references, transcripts and verification of FS exam (if applicable) to be reviewed by the Board no later than January 15 for the April exam or July 1 for the October exam.

How to Apply for the PLS and/or ALLS Exams with a degree other than surveying

Prior to submitting an application - you must submit a Board Evaluation of Transcript Related to Surveying or Related Science form and have transcripts sent to the board office and have your education approved by the board.

Once approved, you must submit the application, application fee, verifications, references, transcripts (if applicable) and verification of FLS exam (if applicable) to be reviewed by the Board no later than January 15 for the April exam or July 1 for the October exam.

ALLS Re-exam (application has not been closed) - you must create an account with NCEES to start the exam registration process and pay the exam fee during the registration process by NCEES' deadline.

ALLS Re-exam - you must submit an exam request form and exam fee to the Alabama Board. If you are taking the exam on the National dates, you will also be required to register with NCEES.
